Using a variety of arts disciplines Urban Arts participants explore issues relating to self-identity, interpersonal relationships, community, and social justice. The Urban Arts program provides youth with a safe space to work collaboratively, creatively express themselves, and develop leadership skills.
“At Alternatives, I made a new discovery and went on a journey to find out new things about me.”
Urban Arts aims to teach youth to understand and process their emotions to effectively resolve conflicts, to express their emotions, views and perceptions with and without art, and to increase participant’s self-esteem, confidence, and ability to work as part of a team. 89% of participants reported improvements to their communication skills as a result of Urban Arts.
