The purpose of a restorative peer jury is to provide an alternative to suspension and detention. During the peer jury process, a student who has broken a school rule sits in a circle with trained student jurors and together they discuss why the incident occurred, who was affected, and how the referred student can repair the harm caused. Peer Jury handles cases covered under Groups 1-4 of the Chicago Public Schools Student Code of Conduct. Typical cases include truancy, tardiness, uniform violations, disruptive classroom behavior, minor property damage and verbal arguments.
Peer Jury is appropriate for grades 9-12.
