News and Opportunities

Girl World 2.0 is a gender-specific program which provides a platform for young women to engage with citizen journalism and digital media. By learning about and involving themselves in their communities, teens will be challenged to think critically about how media affects their lives and empowered to produce their own creative media about important issues. Teens will practice team-building and leadership skills as they learn to master technical competencies and practice workforce behaviors that are required across a range of careers.

The final product will be a blog developed by the teens in the program that highlights local events and projects; examples might include a community garden, youth-produced theater, or school-based activities. The young women will develop their writing skills as well as their ability to use multiple forms of media to tell a story.

Over the course of the year, teens will explore careers in technology, journalism and digital media.

Programming will begin on October 4th, and will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3-6pm each week for 10 weeks.

Interested students may apply online at After School Matters. Application deadline is October 3.

Girl World's Kick-Off Event and information session is September 29 at 4:30pm.
