Community and career issues
Girl World provides gender-specific and age-appropriate programming for girls and young women ages 10 to 18. Program activities focus on increasing self-esteem and self-efficacy, encouraging teamwork and social justice awareness, and developing leaders. Through these activities, Girl World participants learn the importance of positive decisions and healthy relationships. These programs help girls make healthy choices and avoid high-risk activities such as substance abuse, early sexual behavior and juvenile delinquency.
Girl World has an exciting year planned at Alternatives (4730 N Sheridan). Fall 2013 Cooking & Baking. Winter 2013-14 Fitness & Exercise. Spring 2014 Community Art. Contact Mishara Winston, A.M., Youth Development & Counseling Coordinator of Girl World at 773.506.7474.
In addition to Girl World at Alternatives, starting fall 2013 Girl World will be hosted at McCutcheon Elementary for 5th -8th graders.
McCutcheon program will be merged with Urban Arts, offering performance arts, photo-voice and fitness, to support positive school culture.
