Success Stories
Alternatives' Career and Employment Services (CES) program helps youth build skills and obtain real-world work experience through apprenticeship programs, one-on-one case management, and skill development workshops.
The success of young people involved with CES tells the real story: Patrice was 18, a single mother living with her mother in subsidized housing. Because she couldn't afford day care, her son bounced from house to house when she could find work. Then her mother was arrested and jailed, leaving Patrice to fend for herself and her child. For the support she needed, Patrice turned to Alternatives. She took over her mother's lease and worked with Alternatives staff to find a steady job. With their support and guidance, she decided to work toward becoming a registered nurse, and signed up for classes at Malcolm X College where she is currently enrolled and thriving.
